The baby is the event that occurs when the egg cell of the female individual and the nuclei of the sperm cell of the male individual unite. Fertilization takes place in the oviduct of the expectant mother. Thanks to the cilia on the oviduct surface, it allows the fertilized egg (zygote) to advance to the uterus.

The zygote goes through various stages of development from the moment it is formed. These stages are called segmentation steps. The zygote undergoes rapid divisions in succession, forming a structure called "morula". Cell divisions continue and then the stage called "blastula" begins. At this stage, the blastopore, also called the abdominal cavity, is formed. The baby's digestive system has begun to form. Then the stage called "gastrula" begins. At this stage, the baby's sense organs, mouth and anus are formed.

What does the baby experience in the process until birth?

The baby attaches to the mother's womb approximately one week after it is formed in the mother's oviduct. There is an endometrium layer, which is regenerated every month in the mother's womb. This layer is a soft tissue rich in blood vessels. If fertilization does not occur, this layer is thrown out every month with a cycle called the menstrual cycle.

What is the Best Time for Detection of Pregnancy of the Expectant Mother?

The period considered as the beginning of pregnancy is not actually the period when fertilization occurs, but is considered the last menstrual period before fertilization. Because the ovulation event, also called ovulation, which takes place in the mother's body, takes place in this process.

Pregnancy lasts approximately 40 weeks. The first week of these 40 weeks is the period before fertilization. The best time to detect pregnancy is the first month, that is, the four-week period. In this process, conditions such as morning sickness and dizziness are considered normal. If the expectant mother suspects pregnancy, she can take a pregnancy test from the pharmacy and determine it.

The blood values of the expectant mother vary from the pregnancy period. That's why a blood test can also be done at the hospital for a pregnancy test. However, imaging with ultrasound is not possible in the first month.

How Long Does the Baby Stay in the Womb?

Approximately 37 weeks of a healthy 40-week pregnancy are experienced in the womb. After fertilization, the embryo moves towards the mother's uterus in the oviduct and attaches to the soft tissue called the endometrium.

Placenta formation begins where the embryo attaches, and then umbilical cord formation takes place. This cord established between the mother and the baby provides nutrition and respiration of the embryo until birth. The baby does not use the digestive system, but takes the nutrients digested by the mother through the blood.

Hormonal Control During Pregnancy

Every healthy female individual who has reached puberty produces one egg cell per month with the development of follicle cells in her ovaries. This formed egg cell is given to the oviduct. If fertilization occurs, the embryo attaches to the uterus, if not, the unfertilized egg is thrown out together with the endometrium layer formed every month. All of these events are controlled by the pituitary gland in the brain.

The pituitary gland stimulates egg production with the FSH hormone it produces, and the LH hormone causes the follicle cells to crack. Estrogen and progesterone produced in the ovaries are necessary for the continuation of pregnancy.
