What are the benefits of a bedtime routine?

Your baby will be more relaxed if he knows what will happen next. The more comfortable he is, the more likely he is to lie down and fall asleep quickly. Stick to your routine as best you can, even when you're not at home – this can make it easier for your baby to settle into an unfamiliar environment.

The earlier you create a bedtime routine, the better. When your baby is 6 or 8 weeks old, start following a set pattern every night. He will quickly appreciate consistency and predictability.

The bedtime ritual is generally good for parents as well. A special time you can spend with your baby, that you can plan.

How can we establish a good sleep routine?

Start early enough in the evening so you have time to complete the series before you go to bed. Especially for toddlers, you may find it best to keep it short and simple: dishes, diapers and jams, and a story or song in a rocking chair.

And you can definitely start your ritual in the bathroom or living room, but it should end in your baby's bedroom. It's important to teach your baby that their room is a beautiful place, not just where they're "crashed" at bedtime.

What kinds of things should we add to our routine?

Bedtime routine ideas below. Maybe you will find something right for you here.

give some steam

Sometimes it helps to let your baby shed his accumulated energy before trying to calm him down for the night. So feel free to dance with him to his favorite song, give him a "horse" ride, or let him jump on the bouncer if he's in the mood. As long as you follow up any bully game with something calmer and quieter -- like a bath and bedtime story -- before bedtime, bedtime can be the first step.

Gift him a bath

One of the most popular parts of many sleep rituals is the bath. Sitting in warm water can be a comforting experience, and getting your baby warm, clean and dry is a great way to comfort him before bed. The bath is a great way for your partner to spend some private time with the baby, especially if you're breastfeeding and your partner can't help much with food.

If your baby gets excited during bathing or doesn't like bathing, it's probably better to leave them out of the nighttime ritual. Babies don't need a bath more than once or twice a week, so don't feel bad about giving up the bath if it's not a pleasure for both of you.

Dealing with the business

Your baby's bedtime routine may include washing her face and hands, wiping her gums or brushing her teeth, changing her diaper and putting on her pajamas. It's a good idea to start brushing as early as possible so your baby gets used to it.

Play game

Playing a quiet game in the living room or on the floor of your baby's bedroom is a great way to have some fun with him before bed. Your game can be as simple as a round of peekaboo. Anything that entertains your baby without getting too excited is good.

Another fun idea is to hide something in his crib or bed for him to find before you lay him down, like a toy, a postcard, an interesting object, and then talk to him about it. (Be sure to remove the object from the crib before leaving.)

talk

Bedtime is a good opportunity for parents to spend some time with their babies. You don't have to wait until you're old enough to tell you about the day's events. All you have to do is review your day.

When your son is in his crib, and one of you is sitting in the rocking chair next to the crib with the lights off and talking about his day, that can put him at ease.

say good night

Many babies like to run around the room or house and wish good night to their favorite toys, people, and other objects, just as the baby bunny and his mother do on a good night.

You can find many more interesting ideas that she might like, too.

Our favorite bedtime ritual could be saying goodbye to the sun and good night.

To rival the bathroom as the favorite nighttime ritual of all time is reading a bedtime story.

Your baby will not only learn to recognize new words – research has shown that language skills and even intelligence can depend on baby's daily exposure to a large vocabulary – he or she will also benefit from time spent with you.

Sing a song

Singing a lullaby is a time-tested way to help a sleepy baby fall asleep. Your baby loves to hear his favorite sound - your voice - and the soft, soothing melody can calm him down.

I choose two different songs every night and then I close with our 'night-night' song. The children accepted this as goodbye to wakefulness and bedtime.
