Emotional Change During Pregnancy

When the news of the pregnancy is first received, great joy takes over the body. However, as time passes, this joy is replaced by anxiety, fear and stress. And it can even progress to depression. This is an extremely normal process. With the onset of pregnancy, your body begins to change. This also shows up in your hormones. With the change of hormones, your emotional transitions accelerate and you worry more about things that you wouldn't mind, than your normal life flow. This process is usually an event experienced in the first and last months of pregnancy.

What Is Depression During Pregnancy?

Sudden emotional changes during pregnancy lead to emotional disorders. This is definitely undesirable because emotional disorders disrupt the chemical structure in our brain. This is a very normal process during pregnancy, but the most important point is that the person experiencing the pregnancy period should see the situation as normal and accept it. Only 15% of women who experience this condition accept this condition. However, accepting this situation can be seen as half the treatment.

What Are the Symptoms of Depression?

The state of sadness that is constantly seen around you,
Sleep disorders,
change in taste,
The effort to cool off from the activities he/she does in daily life and to find new pursuits for himself/herself,
Anxiety (anxiety disorder),
don't feel worthless,
Thoughts of harming yourself.

What are the Conditions that Trigger Depression?

Problems in the husband-wife relationship,
Problems with family and social environment,
Previously experienced depression states,
IVF treatments,
previous miscarriage events,
Conditions that occur during pregnancy.
Treatment of Pregnancy Depression

Depression during pregnancy has disadvantages for mother and baby. If the state of depression is not noticed immediately, the pregnant cannot understand the situation or many problems will arise until they understand it. Pregnant women with depression begin to lose their eating habits, take insufficient food, and when insufficient fluid intake is added to this, metabolism begins to decrease. This is the last thing to want. As a result of this situation, conditions such as the possibility of premature birth, the possibility of miscarriage, and the regression of the baby's physical and body development occur. In order to avoid such situations, treatment should be started immediately.

There are many types of depression treatment. One-on-one psychological support is group treatments or drug treatment that comes together with people who have experienced this situation or have experienced it most closely. Drugs used for depression do not cause any problems, as drug use during pregnancy will not pose a problem as long as it is under the supervision of a doctor. However, doctors direct pregnant women to one-on-one or group sessions, primarily through conversation. If these sessions do not help, or when it is understood that the situation is quite severe, drug treatment is started. This treatment has risks because it crosses the placenta. This causes problems such as physical negativities and heart diseases in the baby after birth.

Natural Treatments for Depression in Pregnancy

Even half an hour of exercise a day – walking will make you feel more vigorous and happy.
Vitamin intake in herbal structure gains effect as it will secrete serotonin.

Adjusting your body balance will do you good. You will feel better when you get your sleep pattern in place. But remember that too much sleep will affect you badly.

Non-Depressive Mood Changes During Pregnancy

Of course, not every emotional change you experience during pregnancy is a sign of depression. It is normal for you to experience a measured emotional change in this process. In cases where your emotional process lasts longer than two weeks, you should contact your doctor immediately. These emotional changes are stress, anxiety, increase in estrogen and progesterone hormones, changes in the body and metabolism.

Knowing that you are not alone in this process is the biggest source of morale. Reminding yourself that this process is a normal process and not just for you will help you relax in terms of morale. You should not close yourself at home and continue with your previous life. You have to be with the people you love and do the things you love.
